Crappie Poles

Choosing the right crappie poles can make a significant difference in your fishing success. How do you find out what crappie poles to use for a particular location? You should check with local fisherman for their recommendations first, but here are some standard tips to choosing the right crappie poles and equipment.

A limber crappie pole is specially designed for use in catching papermouths. At 2 ½ feet long, these crappie poles look short at first. However, when sliced through the air, these crappie poles snap out to their full length of 10 feet. They can be found up to 16 feet long, though most are anywhere from 9 to 12 feet.

Generally made from synthetic materials, telescopic crappie poles often only have a line tied to their end. You’ll likely find that this type of crappie pole is fitted with a small, round reel that is not made for long casting or fighting strong fish. Telescopic poles are possibly the best choice for pure jigging use. In some models, the reels are actually built into the rod handle. Many of the long crappie poles come in multiple pieces that must be assembled before use.

Long crappie poles offer many benefits to fishermen. They can allow you to reach brush and thick cover, the preferred hiding place of crappie, without having to maneuver your boat too close. If more than one crappie pole is used at varying depths and angles, more area can be covered in a run. They also allow you to keep the bait directly under the end of your crappie pole. Large schools of fish hiding in tight spots are more easily reached with a long crappie pole. They are more efficient as well, and controlling the location and depth is very simple. There is no need to reel and re-rig long crappie poles over and over, and they don’t hang on rocks and underwater brush as often as other types of poles.

Long crappie poles provide more consistent, improved results, less difficulty, and allow you to better enjoy your fishing experience. By using long crappie poles, you can better avoid the frustrations of a bad day on the lake.
